WELCOME!
This blog consists mostly of common sense responses to happenings (news articles, political events, etc) that just cry out for someone to say "WHOA! Hang on a second, here!" Too many people get away with just inventing their own facts as they bull-rush their way through an argument.

Unless you're dodging a taxicab or sidestepping a falling gargoyle, it's usually wise to take what time is available to evaluate and apply actual common sense. Good, old wisdom. It is, of course, my opinion, but I'll try to show why I think it's factual.
Thomas Paine said, "To argue with someone who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead." ... but I argue with drunks, egomaniacs, anti-gun Statists, Socialist/Keynesians and climate-fraud peddlers, too.

**PLEASE share this around. I didn't research, consider, write and post this junk just to have it hidden.
And feel free to comment.**

Wrong fuel

In 4-12's letter "Fueled by hate", a writer says that, “All this current violence and threats of violence from right-wing Republicans/Tea Baggers”, comes from hate, rather than anger, because Obama is (half) African American. He discovered this in 1988, which is before Obama even became an Illinois state senator.

Now, “tea bagger” is an obscene pejorative, used only by those who aren’t aware of it’s semi-obvious sexual reference, and those on the hard left. But let’s move on.

I am aware of several acts of violence. Each violent person left statements and writings. All of them are from the left: the plane crasher, the teacher shooter, the Ft. Hood shooter, the finger biter, the S.E.I.U. black protester beaters, etc. There is one group, that any conservative would call ‘crazy’, which is under investigation for “plotting” violence against cops. As a conservative (and retired cop) I am against this and I’m glad they’re being investigated.
There have been claims of threats and people spitting (all of which somehow avoided being recorded by phone systems and dozens of camcorders), some un-witnessed vandalism and one bullet fired into a (Republican) Congressman’s office.

I am also aware that at all the Tea Parties I have attended, I have observed exactly ONE (1) fool who let kids yelling from a passing car bait him into using the “N word”. We shouted him down ourselves and he left the rally. I also noted that everyone else was smiling and even picking up their own trash. Also, “Republicans” were just a large minority, with most being Independents and a few Democrats and Libertarians. About half appeared to be Black, Latino or Asian (I’m sorry, I didn’t think to ask for specifics).

Over 70% of Americans, in various polls, are increasingly anxious. The numbers grow daily. They said basically that they didn’t vote for radical, leftist “change”; that they are worried about reckless spending and debt; that they want reform but not the destruction of their own insurance and would prefer that the current plan be scrapped in favor of simple reform; and they get angry when their “representatives” lie to them and call them names.

One true difference between the left and right: the left wants to “create” (and take away) rights as they see fit. The right knows that we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, which no politician (today’s Progressive or tomorrow’s Republican) can give or take away.

Balancing the Force

We need the Democrats. Yes, I said it. The United States has to have liberals.
Unfortunately, the small “L” liberal, or honest Democrat, is now rare. Far more endangered than Gore’s mythical, disappearing polar bears, though that is not saying very much. But recall that our system is designed to depend on checks and balances: federal and states’ rights, two houses of legislature and independent judiciary and separate executive, and finally, multiple parties (not specifically defined, permitting them to come and go). Without limits, sounding boards and foils to work with, we are weaker. If left unbalanced, the right can go haywire just as the left now has.

We have already seen Democrats, including some who fashion themselves as “fiscally conservative” or “pro-life”, being encouraged, coerced or bribed into voting for bill after bill that promote “free” abortion and threaten the economy of the U.S., and every state, with bankruptcy within a decade or two. This pressure comes from the Progressive wing of the Democratic Party. This is shorthand for Progressive Socialist, a 100 year old euphemism for Marxist. They learned to keep labels “small and friendly“ (like “Bullmoose” – aww) when Americans discovered and rejected the concept of killing our free-market, Constitutional Republic in favor of a dictatorial, central oligarchy running and regulating everything.

Today, the leftist S.E.I.U. union announced a third party in South Carolina, in opposition to Democrats as well as Republicans (Independents, Greens, etc). Of course they use a small, friendly label: the “North Carolina First Party”. They are evidently impatient with Obama’s pace of Socializing the U.S. - - or frightened by the roaring awakening of the vast majority of the People in defense of their country. These are the same nice folks who beat a peaceful Tea Party supporter and whose leader, Andy Stern, is the #1 visitor at the white house and makes no bones about being a revolutionary Marxist.

Now, in the current context, it is a good thing when anti-Constitutional groups want to splinter their votes. It increases the odds that conservatives will gain. But ironically, it is the Constitutional ideal itself that cries for some sort of Democratic/liberal entity to argue policy in the future, and the Socialist model that prohibits alternative parties. Each party has overlooked “small” abuses of legislative rules and “stretching” of Constitutional limits, though Democrats usually lead the charge. These were used as precedents in the huge bribes and violations of rules and complete disregard for the Constitution that we have now seen in nationalizing industries, interference in private business, giveaways of hundreds of billions of dollars to cronies and foreigners, abandonment of allies and arrogant, sneering contempt for the source of legitimate power in the U.S., the People.

We have to pray that some sort of conscientious, pro-American “left side” of the aisle survives after the return to legal federal authority, so that a conscientious right side can work with or against them and find the Constitutional middle ground for our kids and grandchildren.

SORRY, MA'AM.

The reader thanking Joe Baca for his 'yes' votes on the "health care" (and student loan industry) takeover probably didn't know that her letter would appear on April 1st.

Because of the aggressive string of misrepresentations told by most (not all) Democrats, She also didn't know:

that her 3 kids and 7 grand-kids will never be free of the debt, largely because of the hidden $250 billion "Doctor fix" bill and $500 billion gutting of Medicare, which was "used" for both hidden financing of Obamacare and propping up the old, failing federal health system, as well as states carrying most of the burden after a few years;

that medical insurance rates will be - and already are - rising and jobs being cut due to new burdens on companies (check "Caterpillar" on-line), and that millions of new patients with the same number (or fewer, as many retire to avoid the mess) of doctors means slower and poorer care for those offspring;

that as the new system bankrupts itself and the country (debt jumping from the new $12 trillion to $30+ trillion), rationing will be across the board, with "less viable" (older, sicker) people getting cut off because 'it would not be efficient' (check every other socialized system, which we copied);

that there are almost no new services for 4 to 5 years, though taxes and costs of every kind start immediately and balloon after election years (gee);

that as they change jobs or their old insurance companies are crushed, they will be REQUIRED to take "government approved" policies in a shrinking market, eventually only Medicare and Medicaid;

or that "Working Joe" the "fiscally conservative, Blue Dog Democrat" is just another Progressive Socialist who knew about all of this (as well as the deals, bribes and corruption) while he promised her the opposite.

Thank God that her blood pressure is down, she sounds nice. I pray that the facts being confirmed daily do not cause her new problems...
This government isn't worried about the health of her family either, and printing her letter today is just a cruel irony.

Oil just a Smokescreen

On 3- 31-10, Obama made a splashy statement, declaring that he will allow "study" for limited, additional domestic drilling for oil. Not nearly all of the potential American production, or what Bush asked his Democratic congress for, but maybe some additional drilling. In 2012. Like his decision to reinforce outgunned U.S. troops, this is good, but long overdue. His "oil and clean-coal while seeking green" idea is already 2 years behind Republicans' "do it all" plan. Drilling was cut off by Democrats in the first place, back when oil was cheap, and clean/safe oil production matured in Alaska years ago.

Expect the follow-up E.P.A. (Obama's executive branch) order severely restricting CO2 emissions, with no legislative action (sneaky or otherwise), to go unannounced in the "mainstream media". This is Obama's idea of a fair exchange for finally allowing us to save billions of dollars wasted on importation of 13 million barrels of oil PER DAY (less than U.S. potential, despite Obama's skewed statistics). So, businesses will have to spend hundreds of billions on CO2 compliance equipment, instead of hiring workers.

CO2 (carbon dioxide) is what animals exhale and plants inhale, about .04% of the atmosphere. Those ever-so-reliable "climate crisis scientists" say they detected a few 1/1000's percent increase in CO2, just as the current climate cooling cycle started. If multiplied many times, it MIGHT cause some climactic change (warmer or cooler) but mankind has never approached that level; even in the old days of whale-oil, wood and dirty-coal burning. Terrible smog, but the same warm/cool cycles, and even the smog declined over recent decades. The pollution released from fuel burned by all the supertankers, needlessly pushing all that oil across the ocean from greedy, anti-American exporters, is measured in thousands of tons PER DAY.

Of course, since Obama still pushes "global warming" and says his Cap and Trade plan would tax oil, "bankrupt" coal companies (and "clean coal doesn't exist"), his E.P.A. is expected to OPPOSE the domestic drilling; delaying it for years in the courts ("defended" by Holder of Obama's Justice Dept) or blocking it altogether. Yet, like his transparent "health care" debate, he will be "open to suggestions".

It's so nice that one man can make all the decisions these days. No need for all that "representation" or "rule of law" stuff. Just vast government and lawyers.
